Creating Family Traditions: Day 3

What kinds of things does your family enjoy?  Maybe camping, eating yummy food together, reading a riveting, on-going adventure story by firelight, singing songs around the piano or maybe taking a fun vacation every year to a special place.

Growing up, we had traditions in our family, many of them revolving around food.

Friday evening supper was always fresh, oven-baked cornbread with savory potato soup.  And, don't forget the honey, maple syrup or molasses on the cornbread.

Saturday night was delicious fruit salad with popcorn and other party goodies.  We always snitched the popcorn as it came flying out of the popper.  Sometimes the house brimmed with friends and games but sometimes it was just "us", our little family foursome.  That was special, too.

Sunday was Chef Dad's Day.  I still remember him, hollering, "Pancakes are on!", as our sleepy little bodies jumped from our beds to the wonderful wafts of breakfast. - The fun part came when our pancakes were shaped like airplanes, Mikey Mouse ears and who knows what other creative creatures we ate.  Then later in the day, we always had Dad's homemade pizza!

Christmas always included, mom's Date pinwheels and her yummy zucchini bread.  - "More please!"

We took lots of adventure hikes and even scaled what seemed like tall mountains.  Somehow life seemed simple then, the togetherness.

And for those that don't groove in doing the same things over and over, that's ok.  Variety is probably your middle name.  Whatever you enjoy, make memories together as a family.  Your children will look back on these traditions with fond memories.

What kind of family traditions did you have growing up?  What do you do in your family now?
